3rd March 2008:
What used to be the Sheraton Tacoma hotel has now been completely modernised and revamped. It is now called the Hotel Murano and is proving to be an eye and news catching establishment of the highest order. Following the name Murano, they have decided to have a theme of glass ornaments, objets d'art and Murano chandeliers either in impressively arranged display cabinets or with the chandeliers hanging liberally for all to see for free. In the modern tradition of having theme hotels to gather in guests holding such interests, They seem to have created a first with an Italian glass or more specifically a Venetian Murano glass themed luxury hotel.

Now here's an interesting away to recoup your losses after one of those little disasters has befallen you. Have you accidentally cracked or dropped one of your precious pieces of Murano glass, Swarovski crystal or maybe even your favourite piece of china? rather than just chucking it in the bin, why not march down to the local craft shop and get some glue and starts ticking the piece together into any ornamental shapes takes your fancy. You could even buy a cheap white files or bowl and stick the precious pieces around it again some mosaic style. For instance if you've been watching too much of desperate housewives, and find it's time to throw about some of your partner's precious belongings, you can just cool him down by suggesting he takes mosaic classes! (This comment was inspired by a recent publication in the Miami Herald.)

The city of Tacoma now boasts of a new and rather special hotel with a distinct Italian flavour. The hotel is actually named after the Island of Murano, just outside Venice and famous for its centuries-old tradition of beautiful glassblowing used in all sorts of ornaments and of course those most elegant and colourful glass chandeliers. The Murano hotel has 21 floors and on each floor will be a showcase displaying different Murano products from specific Murano families, traditions or factories.

Dream Houses with Murano Crystal Chandeliers -
The Campisi residence of Jean and Sal must boast one of the most luxurious of recent years. Completed a few years ago, it is fitted throughout with the most popular end of features from around the world, somewhat reminiscent of a miniature Hearst Castle with gold to the foreground. They boast of Murano chandeliers yet on closer examination it seems that the chandelier there is only Murano crystals so could not really be considered a genuine Murano masterpiece. They're comfy little pad no doubt deserves a visit if you're in the vicinity.

19th February 2008: There is presently an extensive exhibition of Murano glass and Murano chandeliers at the Galleria in Dallas, Texas. The exhibition is known as LA VENEZIANA and has some pretty amazing examples of blown glass artwork. Apparently there are hand-blown glass frames that are even embellished with 24 carat gold surrounding the mirrors. Products like these have been custom-made by traditional glassmaking families on the island of Murano for centuries. These particular ones were made by the Barbini family at a mere $29,000 each.

Did you know that probably the biggest chandelier in Europe is a Murano masterpiece made from 22,000 parts and said to weigh around seven tonnes? the lucky owners of this enlightening objets d'art is in fact the casino in the very affluent area of Knokke, situated on the Dutch-Belgium border.

6th February 2008: Paris Hilton's parties apparently only start getting going after she's been swinging from the chandeliers.

Of course, with Paris Hilton, everything seems possible, but she must have a lot of faith in the strength of the chandelier fitting.  I wonder how many chandelier owners would feel confident doing the same? I wonder if she's practicing for an upcoming audition with Jim Carrey in a sequel to The Mask? - Just joking!

5th February 2008: Stella McCartney, the famed fashion designer and daughter of Sir Paul, created a stupendous horse-shaped chandelier from an amazing 8000 crystals.

This beautiful work of art of a rearing horse was created a few years ago and has been exhibited several times in Northumberland in the north of England.

The shimmering quality to this eminently striking design is to arrive through the fineness of the crystal size. It is said to resemble a crystal rain. Judge for yourself from the photo.
